Safe Baby Sleeping Habits

July 26, 2014momstownBaby, PregnancyNo comments
Best practices for keeping your baby safe while sleeping and napping.

There are so many things us moms need to know to help keep our children safe. Walmart Canada and momstown are here to help new moms through these times so that we can enjoy every minute with our little ones.

Our Baby Basics program began with Bathing and continued with Safety.

Likely the only time you will leave your baby or young child unattended is while he or she sleeps. The important thing is to make sure children are sleeping where they will be safe. In order to do this, parents and caregivers must be aware of safe sleep practices.

The safest place for your baby to sleep is on his or her back, in a crib, cradle or bassinet. Health Canada recommends room sharing for the first six months of your baby's life.

Put your baby on his or her back to sleep, both at nap time and at bedtime.
Your baby's crib should be completely empty, except for the crib's mattress and fitted sheet.

The use of loose bedding, or soft objects in your baby's sleeping area are a danger.

Products like these should be avoided:
comforters, heavy blankets and quilts, pillows, foam padding, stuffed toys, bumper pads, sleep positioners and mobiles can be dangerous and cause harm to your child.

Don’t over look the Cords on window blinds. Shades and curtains blinds are a strangulation hazard. Tie the cords high and out of your child's reach or install a tension device for looped cords. Whether the blind is up or down, make sure your child cannot reach the cord.

Established in 2006, Levana is a Canadian baby safety brand on a mission to help parents worry less & do more.

Baby movement monitors give parents an extra layer of peace of mind, knowing that all is well in the nursery after baby has been gone to sleep.
Awareness of an emergency is the all-important first step in responding to it. Under the mattress movement monitors can alert parents when something is wrong, but they are powered through a wall outlet and run cords directly into the crib, putting baby at risk of cord strangulation. They are also prone to giving false alarms if baby rolls or is picked up.

Ilana and her daughter won a the Levana baby monitor.

At Levana, we’re proud to be ahead of the curve and
setting a new standard of baby movement monitoring devices.

The moms talked about baby proofing, when, where and how we implemented safety in our homes. It was informative to hear other Moms talk about how they baby proofed their homes and get different tips and ideas.

We talked about and shared our favorite safety products.
