The perfect location for a Dinosaur Dig in Newmarket is at All Our Kids Play Park.
It features a huge sand pit with a cemented dinosaur skelton.
I arrived early, put up cones to section off one area and started to burry plastic dinosaurs that i purchased at the dollar store. I also made Salt Dough fossils, and burried them as well.
To make Salt Dough:
I cup of salt
2 cups flour
3/4 cup of water
In a large bowl mix salt and flour together
Gradually add water until doughy consistency.
Remove from bowl and knead dough until smooth and combined.
Roll out little balls and flatten
Press plastic dinos into the flat dough to make an imprint of the dino
Bake in the oven at 180o C until hard (30 mins depending on thickness of dough)
I tossed some shovels and other sand toys and let the kids search through the sand.
Slowly they started to find the dinosaurs and fossils, which brought a huge smile on theri little faces.
I did have to help a couple younger children locate a few. Next time, I will mark off a smaller area, and not put the entire dino under the sand so they are a bit easier to find.
